Clarifying the Heart of The Cottage Collective

ree

We’ve been reflecting lately on what truly sits at the heart of The Cottage Collective, not just what we do, but why we do it. It’s easy in the hustle of everyday tasks to focus on jars, labels, and to-do lists. But our business is more than fermented foods and handcrafted meals. It’s a living, breathing system rooted in nourishment, connection, and care.

Rather than seeing The Cottage Collective as a single product line or service, we’re beginning to speak of it as an interconnected web of offerings, values, and relationships, just like a healthy garden or thriving microbial culture.

Our Core Purpose

To nourish people through local food and creative connection to land and wellbeing, growing into a thriving network of connected communities, sustained by regenerative food practices and inspired exchange.

This purpose is the thread that runs through every jar of kraut, every workshop we hold, and every conversation we have with someone curious about fermentation. It’s not just about wellness—it’s about wholeness.

What We Offer (Now and in the Future)

We're starting with small-batch food products, but the vision is much broader. Here’s a glimpse into our growing system:

Food ProductsFerments, preserves, broths, plant-based meals, and nourishing tonics made from ethically sourced and seasonal ingredients.

Workshops & ClassesCovering everything from fermentation and seasonal cooking to foraging, gut health, and food prep with heart.

CollaborationsWorking alongside health food stores, community co-ops, local growers, and other aligned initiatives.

Educational ContentThe Book “ Stars Linger: a practical guide to improved health”, short videos, blog posts (like this one!), and even little print zines exploring food as medicine, seasonal rhythms, and conscious living.

Our Unique Voice

The Cottage Collective isn’t polished or corporate—it’s real, earthy, and soulful. We’re:

  • Family-run: This is a homegrown, hands-in-the-dough kind of venture.

  • Community-minded: We care deeply about the people around us—our neighbours, customers, and fellow growers.

  • Heart-led: Health is important, but heart comes first.

  • Creative and Welcoming: Whether it’s through food, art, or shared stories, we aim to create spaces that feel alive and inclusive.

Want to Be Part of It?

Whether you’ve bought our kraut or other products, joined a workshop, or simply feel aligned with what we’re growing—thank you. The Cottage Collective is as much about you as it is about us. This season, we’re excited to expand our offerings, host more community events, and share more of the story behind each forkful.

Let’s keep co-creating something meaningful, one small batch at a time.

With heart,

The Cottage Collective
